This is a reflexion on climate change from 2009 never published before.
Recently, I went on the government of Canada website and I noticed that they had put online some approximations on the climate change that could occur around years 2050 to 2100. That led me to have this reflexion on climate change.
They say that some regions of Canada will see their annual temperature rise by 6 degrees and it will be even more in the most arctic regions. Some reports suggest that the weather in Quebec will look similar to the actual climate of Florida and that Florida will become a tropical climate. The regions near equator will become more and more like a desert.
The strange thing for me is that we are aware of all that, it is clearly exposed on a government public website. We seems conscious that we are destroying the planet. It seems like we know but we don’t understand. In others words, the fact is known but we have not yet understood its consequences for ourselves. It’s still considered like a mirage, an illusion in our head far away from the reality we have always known. If we would really understand what is coming for us, that all government and scientists now admit, normally a being that pretends to be evolved would change his behavior rapidly.
Fundamentally, all that matters is life and the wonderful evolution that Earth has created for us. We have the bad habit to forget that, forget that the most important thing for us is that we are here and alive.
We are so lucky when we look at all the equilibrium that was necessary for us to exist: the fact that we are in the good solar system, in the right place, in the right galaxy, at the right time, on the right planet, with the right conditions and the right atoms. All this equilibrium that surrounds us is a chance that nobody seems to recognize and to cherish.
It should be a great pleasure to experience our modern life considering the state of evolution that our specie have reached and with all the technologies that we have. But instead of that, we are in regression, we pollute and we destroy. Every day, there are reports of catastrophes, the climate is getting crazy and millions of people suffers, others species suffer and this suffering is our fault, we can stop it.
It is a painful and sad to see our planet die and to feel powerless to change what is happening. We feel sad because we also participle in its destruction and we don’t know how to stop that. Our lifes have been engineered in a way that is harmful for life itself and now we are deeply involved in this way of living: cars, consuming products, buying stuff, putting stuff in the garbage, etc. When we have the desire to change our way of living, we realize that we don’t have the power to realize all these changes. This is a universal sadness that many people experience right now.
Most of the citizens on the planet live in polluted areas and can observe that something is wrong. I often think about all the human suffering that comes from pollution and I tell myself that we have not yet understood any of the messages we are receiving and from the structure of the nature.
Because if we would have understood something, we would not see the governments sign papers to do some change before 2050, we would not wait a second before taking actions. If we would understand that our most important wealth is our health and the quality of what’s essentials to life: water, food, soil, air, etc., if would be convince of that, then we could change things tomorrow morning.
The only reason why we are not changing anything right now is because we are too busy putting our minds in economy in the hope to earn some money to guarantee us a privilege over another person or nation depending on what scale your observe this reality. This is why we are not realizing that 2050 is not that far.
We are not visualizing what is coming for us along the climate change predictions, I think this is why we don’t react. Our head is blooming with actual preoccupations concerning our superficial point of view: I want this, I want to do that… And all of this superficiality is creating the burden of our children.
It’s fascinating to realize that in our society the right to get rich is in fact a right to pollute more than the others. Very often, the more a company makes money, the more it pollutes, exception made for the knowledge based company. Most companies have an income proportional to their capacity of absorbing natural resources and to pollute.
Take for example a car company. The more it sells, the more it makes money. And since it wants to sell cars so much, they do cars that doesn’t last very long. So instead of thinking about how we could build cars that would last for a hundred years and that would be 100% recyclable and be easy to maintain, they think of profit. Companies are even more obsessed with profit than regular citizens therefore they only think about how to get a grip on the market and to make sure to renew the demand for their product.
This mentality leads us towards a world where there are lots of useless technologies that are being created and the evolution of technologies is purposely slowed down to ensure a regular market.
We are not thinking about how to do the best things ever made, and be patient enough to wait until we created something extremely well thought before we put in on the market. Because if things were made in an intelligent manner, human would understand that they have to work like nature does. Everything that nature does can be reintegrated into its cycles with harmony; everything it creates is perfectly harmonized with the Whole of nature. I call that way of doing things: the perfect cycles.
For example, an apple will fall on the ground; it will decompose and then nourish the roots of the apple tree that produced it. Therefore, an apple produced by a tree will then become nourishment for this same tree so that it can grow better. Everything is reusable at 100% without creating any disequilibrium, any toxins that are accumulating.
Instead of that, everything that human creates are future garbage: computers, TVs, cars, everything is meant to end their life into garbage.
So the only way for humanity to live in something else than a dump in a hundred years from now, would be to ensure that everything is created is recycle at 100%. This implies laws that force every company to assume the recycling of their product before they are put on the market. This is an attempt to imitate the laws of nature, even if we know that plastics are not naturals and that nature would never build such materials that threaten life. So we have to make sure that this plastic never enters the cycle of life, it must not accumulate in soil, in veggies, in oceans, in air, in plants, etc. If we are to use this kind of substance, we need to use them perpetually and be sure that everything we use is reuse again and again.
Things must be created to be recycled and to last long. We must not forget that even if we recycle things, it takes energies to do that and to create new materials. We will not always have the luxury to loot all the energy sources of our planet : nuclear, fossil fuel, hydro power, wind power, solar power, etc. There is not perfect solution when we are greedy in terms of energy consumption; the real solution always comes from the consumers to diminish his needs and the establishment of an industry that is made to replenish itself automatically without the need of any fuel or resources that we have to take in the planet.
Every time we dig into the planet to get some energy source, we are reducing what is left behind for the next generations and also we pollute a lot by extracting those substances. So that’s a first step to understand that the right to get rich is a disguise for a right to pollute more. Like we were saying before, if I start a company I need transport, packaging, energy, etc. for my business. The chances are I might do a lot of money with my business but at the same time I will pollute more than any other individual just for my personal greed.
So we have to be careful, I think the society will not always be able to let people serve their own interest over those of majority. Suppose I start a water company and I decided to pump all the water from a region sell it. I then create millions of plastic bottles which I have no responsibility upon, of course I’ll make some money but the impact on the environment, well this is none of my concerns… for now.
Every citizen is giving himself the right to become wealthy and to live his life as he wants to without stopping himself to consider the pollution he’s creating to attain his corrupted ideals. The countries, the governments are also harboring the same kind of behavior. In USA, I remember hearing about a President Bush’s project of building a thousand thermal reactors, that was ridiculous enough. And as for us in Canada the project of bituminous sands (oily sands) we give ourselves the right to extract this oil, because it belongs to us! And the world needs petroleum right? We have the right to sell this oil, nobody can remove this right, it’s fundamental, and it’s our resources…. Well this is how humanity is destroying itself, by convincing itself that an individual or a company has the right to pollute more than another person, company or nation, for a personal interest, far from a universal interest.
As long as we will not try to achieve universal interests we won’t be able to evolve and things won’t really get better in terms of environmental care, and we won’t be able to achieve a durable enrichment of our quality of life. That is why I ended up thinking of a society in which the human being must not let himself be controlled by a desire to earn money. When you seriously think about it, all the important problems that we are facing right now come from the power of money. In my second book that will be available online soon, I’m saying the power of money is corrupting the human mind, a call this phenomenon “being corrupted by money”.
This explain why a human that would be full of good will and goodness will be easily convinced to act in a bad manner by the money corruption influence, since money is so powerful and gratified and is giving us the power to achieve every kind of dreams, to feel like gods, to dominate other people with our power. And finally we become excessive in ours needs, we don’t think about any limitations anymore, the environmental costs of our luxury isn’t important if money is what everyone is looking for and we get it that way. This is what everyone wants right?
